Tips for GuestsElk Viewing Gourmet Dinner Ride
Dress - What Should I Wear? Depends on the season just assume that very, very casual is the mode of dress. For the dinner ride - you should come prepared for the season. October through November anything can happen - so it is best to bring along hat, mittens and coat. It can be cold in the winter months (January - March), so it may be best to layer your clothing to assure a comfortable ride. We do give you a blanket to wrap-up in on the sleigh ride, but bring your "just in case" clothing for an "Up-North" experience. Supplies - What Do I Need to Bring? Let's start with what you won't need. In the Pine Cone Quarters, each quilter is provided with a chair, a 6' table and a professional magnification light. Cushions, extension cords and power strips are also available. Ironing stations are conveniently located in the Pine Cone Quarters for your use. What you will need is your sewing supplies and projects to work on. Plan to bring along your sewing machine, but if that isn't feasible the resort does have some that you can reserve - see below. In addition, bring all the tools, thread, and fabric you will need for your project. If you forget something, generally someone has it and is willing to share or our vendors may also be able to help you out. In case you need to reserve a Sewing Machine! Thunder Bay Resort has purchased eight "Janome Jem Gold 2" sewing machines to be used by our retreaters. These machines feature twelve stitches, built-in needle threader and jam proof drop in bobbin. The feed dogs can be dropped for free motion quilting. The Jem Gold 2 weighs only 12 pounds. The machines can be rented during the four day retreat for only $35.00 and will be available on a first reserved-first serve basis. Snacks -Do I Need Them/ Can I Bring Them? We found that most folks don't need or want 3 big meals every day. Based on this we decided not to include lunch. You have a kitchen in your lodging which has a fridge and cupboards for storing a variety of snacks. Please feel free to bring snacks to the Pine Cone Quarters Lodge to relax and sustain you as you quilt. Hot Tub - Can I Use It? The hot tub is open until 11 p.m. every night for your pleasure and is accessible with your room key. Proper attire is required, i.e. bathing suits, as there may be other people (namely men) at the resort the same time you are here. Exercise - What is Available? During the summer and fall golf and tennis are available at the resort. Golf is optional at an extra charge, but you'll get a big "Quilter's Discount." There is a quiet subdivision or natural hiking trails available for walking. During winter months cross country skiing and snow shoeing are available. Tips for Servers - Do I Need to Tip? Tips for servers are included in your retreat pricing.
